Four of our summer signings — Wayne Routledge, Aaron Lennon, Teemu Tainio and Tom Huddlestone — made their debuts in the 3-0 win at Broadhall Way.
Wayne and Aaron claimed assists as Fredi Kanoute, Mido and Jermain Defoe opened their accounts for pre-season against the Conference outfit.
Head Coach Martin opted to field a different team in each half so 22 players all got 45 minutes of action under their belts.
“It was a good work out after some long training sessions this week, not always intensive sessions, but some up to three and a half hours long,” said Martin.
“There was a good crowd, warm weather and we were able to field two teams, so it was ideal.
“We made the decision to play two teams and you never quite know how it will go but we have to be happy.
“In this preparation time for the season fitness is the most important thing but we want to win these matches as well.
“I thought we did well. We could have scored three goals in the first half and we had three big chances in the second half, Jermain was unlucky a couple of times and three different strikers scored, so it was typical Spurs.”
Martin Jol was pleased with what he saw as an ideal start to our pre-season friendly schedule at Stevenage on Saturday.
