The 17-year-old full-back and England youth international is part of the squad in Spain for the Kappa Cup.
He also went on the training camp to Sweden and has featured twice in friendlies against Falkenbergs FF and Stevenage Borough.
"It's a great experience to travel with the first team," said Phil, who made 10 starts for the reserves last term. "I'm thoroughly enjoying it and learning a lot.
"I went to Forest on Saturday and although I didn't play it was good because you can take notes on whoever is playing.
"It's also ideal to mix with the older lads to get some information on how hard it is and what I've got to to do progress.
"It's great to get the opportunity to express yourself and you have to take that chance.
"I went to Sweden, played out there, played against Stevenage and now I'm in Spain. It's all great experience and it would be great to play out here - if I get on, great, if not, it's more experience. Hopefully I'll get a few minutes but if not I'll watch, learn and enjoy it."
Phil Ifil is relishing every second he's spending with the first team squad in pre-season.
