The young midfielder appeared completely unfazed by surely the biggest of his 13 appearances for us so far, and his ninth start, as we took on the Serie A giants at the Olympic Stadium, Rome.
As always, he saw plenty of the ball from the middle of the park and set-up Gareth Bale's disallowed goal, but he was forced into defensive duties as Lazio had the better of the game. Hugo Lloris was outstanding as it remained goalless.
"We had a team meeting at lunchtime and that’s when I heard I was starting," revealed Tom, still only 20. "I was excited and couldn’t wait for the game. I had a few nerves but you just have to deal with that.
"I try to get on the ball as much as I can and to influence the game, hopefully I did that. We had to work hard, keep our concentration and we dug in well.
"We needed a result and it was a good point in the end. We'll now look to finish off with a win against Panathinaikos.
"On a personal level, it was probably the biggest game of me career so far. I've been involved in the last four or five matches now, I'm enjoying my football and hopefully that will continue."
