We fly out to Russia this week to take on Anji Makhachkala in our second game in Group K, looking to build on the 3-0 win against Norwegian side Tromso IL at the Lane a fortnight ago.
Goalkeeper Hugo says he believes it’s better to get the job done early, as we chase qualification for the next stage of the competition, which gets underway in the New Year.
“It’s our first away game in this competition so it’s important to keep our confidence and go to win, and to get three more points,” said the French international.
“I think in this competition it’s important to qualify as quickly as possible, and so to go in that direction we need to win all our games in the first meeting (of each team).
“If we win this game we have a great chance to finish in the first two in the group. It should be a difficult game away in Russia, it’s a long trip but everybody wants to get three more points.”
As Hugo mentioned, the lads face a long flight to oppose Anji, but the keeper insists we have what it takes to go to Russia and claim our second win of the Group Stage.
“We are professional and we are focussed only about the game,” he said. “We know that the trip is long, but the club and the staff help us to be in the best condition.
“There is a good atmosphere in the squad and we are happy to be all together.”
