Captain of Club and country, French goalkeeper Hugo led from the front again, presiding over an all-time Club best defensive record as the team set records at all levels on our way to second place in the Premier League.
Indeed, Club bests were recorded at both ends of the pitch - 26 goals conceded our best-ever since entering the Football League in 1908 and 86 goals scored fully 17 clear of our previous best in the Premier League in 2015-16.
"The identity of the team is very important," said Hugo, now on duty with France and set to face five team-mates in a friendly against England on Tuesday. "Of course I love to win, but I love to win in our style.
"The gaffer brought his ideas - possession, attacking football, risk in playing from the back and we’re all enjoying that, it makes me more complete as a man and as a goalkeeper.
"I really enjoy my time with Toni (Jimenez, goalkeeping coach) because we work in this way every day. We have the ability to play under pressure.
"We can make mistakes, of course. We can miss passes, but the important thing is to repeat again, again, again and it’s the same for everyone, all the players, then you build strong confidence in the team and you are ready to compete against anyone.
"Individually and collectively, we all aim to reach the highest level and it makes me proud to be the captain."
