Hugo targeting victory against Serie A giants

Hugo Lloris is relishing the prospect of an “exciting” European tie against Fiorentina.

We take on the Italian side in the first leg of our Europa League Round of 32 meeting at White Hart Lane tonight, keen on making further progress in the competition.

Having previously taken on this evening’s opponents with former club Lyon, goalkeeper Hugo is ready for the challenge of facing the Serie A giants over two legs.

“We work every day to play in games like this,” said our French international skipper. “Okay, we are still far from the final but you need to go step by step and you know it’s a different competition because there are two legs to go through.

“It’s exciting because you can play some of the best teams in Europe. We know the league is our bread and butter, but a European run is a bonus and exciting to play in.

“I’ve played against Fiorentina twice in the Champions League. It was my first game in the Champions League with Lyon in 2008-09. We drew 2-2 at home in the group stages and away, we won 2-1.

“We then played them again the following season, beat them at home 1-0 and lost 1-0 away. It was a great team with Adrian Mutu, Alberto Gilardino, Riccardo Montolivo and Felipe Melo – and this Fiorentina team is really good as well. I’ve watched some games and was impressed with their performances and players.

“We will try to go through and to go as far as possible.”
