Our captain and goalkeeper - one clean sheet away from claiming the Premier League's 'Golden Glove' last term - presided over the best defensive record in a league campaign in the Club's history in 2016-17.
We conceded just 26 goals on our way to second place in the Premier League, toppling our previous Club best of 32 set twice in 1908-09 and 1919-20 and our best in the top flight (the old First Division/Premier League) of 33 set in the old First Division in 1970-71.
We've set Club best marks for successive seasons in the Premier League and where 35 goals was level with Manchester United in 2015-16, last season's 26 goals was the best in the league by three, again from United.
"It's the second-successive season we've done it and that is down to our basics," said Hugo, now on international duty with France.
"Okay, scoring goals is important but the most important thing is to have a balance, not conceding easy chances and conceding goals because then the game becomes less difficult to win.
"Last season we became the best defence, this season we’re the best defence and that as to be in your DNA, not conceding chances, not conceding goals, playing good football and creating chances.
"Everyone knows what they have to do on the pitch and it’s about positioning, passing, possession and in defensive areas, in both boxes, we need to be clever, smart and have that killer instinct."
