The French goalkeeper was at Haringey Sixth Form Centre to taste Tottenham Cakes made by young people who had taken part in the ‘Get Started with Cooking’ programme, in association with The Prince’s Trust.
The work forms part of an extensive employment partnership between the Club and Foundation, Job Centre Plus, the Department for Work and Pensions, Haringey Council and Sainsbury’s to deliver new jobs and training for local people throughout the development of the Northumberland Development Project.
A total of 65 Apprenticeships are already in place or due to be filled within the next 12 months, with an ongoing creation of innovative employment and training programmes working with people of all ages, including those not currently in education, employment or training between the ages of 16 and 24.
Participants will now get the chance to take catering apprenticeships with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, linking in with Lindley Group and Sainsbury’s.
Hugo said: “I was always very fortunate that I managed to get into a career at a young age and do something I loved. However, I know there are lots of young people out there at the moment who are struggling to find work. Courses like this are a fantastic way of helping them.
“There were some delicious cakes made by everyone on the course! They were a great group and seemed like they had really benefited from the five days. I wish them all the very best for the future.”
Grant Cornwell, Chief Executive Officer, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “We see this week as an opportunity to pilot a workshop working with The Prince’s Trust, Lindley Group and Sainsbury’s to develop the skills of local young people – enabling them to see how the skills they learn through the week link to job opportunities and apprenticeships on offer.
“We hope to develop a series of workshops across a range of specialist roles employers are looking for, including fishmongers and butchers.”
On the course young people worked towards a Level 2 Certificate in Food Hygiene, and learned techniques for preparing a variety of meals. They studied budgeting and nutrition, as well as building their confidence, teamwork, communication and leadership skills.
