Hughton's scouting notes

Posted on 22 November 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton gives us his regular lowdown on our next opponents - this time it's Aston Villa...

We travel to Villa Park for the televised Premiership clash with Villa enjoying a run of three wins and a draw from their last four games.

As we all know, we are looking to end a run of five straight league defeats.

"Villa have been an offensive side this season," said coach Chris.

"Whittingham has come in and it's a rare commodity in our game, a natural left-sided player even if he tends to come in-field.

"They also have players playing well, Hendrie in midfield is at the top of his game, although he's suspended, I thought Solano was a good acquisition for them and McCann is doing the job he's done so well for some years now.

"Cole up front is always a handful and Angel, after his exploits last season, you know he's someone who can always score a goal.

"A couple of changes they have made is that Delaney, a tall full-back, has been playing at centre-half. He reminds me a little of Gary Stevens who did so well at Spurs and could also play in both positions.

"They also have two attacking full-backs in De La Cruz who is a right-sided midfielder playing at right-back, so is capable of getting forward and an under-rated player at left-back in J-Lloyd Samuel, naturally two-footed a player in fine form.

"You look at Villa, Middlesbrough, Everton, these are teams that are doing very, very well at the moment, all going in the same direction."
