Hughton's Notes

Posted on 2 March 2005  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton offers his regular assessment of forthcoming opponents - continuing with Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup 5th round replay at the City Ground tonight.

I THINK WE are in for a real battle against Nottingham Forest because of the run they are having at the moment - they have had a victory over Preston and a very good draw with Derby since playing us. They have made good progress since Gary Megson took over and they will have taken confidence from their performance at White Hart Lane.

On the balance of play we were the better side with more possession but they will feel, on chances, they could have got more from the game.

From an organisational point of view, Gary has made Forest a tougher team to play against from what we have seen of them. He has changed the shape in recent games and, from when he started there, he has employed three big lads at the back.

We found them difficult to break down, we got a lot of crosses in but they defended very, very well on the day.

He has looked to make them a harder side to beat and has the quality of Kris Commons to create and score goals for them.

The way they play they are certainly very reliant of Gareth Taylor up front, who does a very good job for them and has to be able to hold the ball up and win balls in the air. The three centre-halves played very well at our place, Andy Melville is an experienced campaigner at the back and has bought in some organisation and quality.

In the game against us, Alan Rogers was very dangerous and got into three or four good positions either for shots on goal or crossing positions.

I suspect Forest will keep their gameplan pretty much the same, they have been successful in recent weeks and I don't imagine they will vary it too much from being a tight unit, with quality there to try and score goals.
