CHARLTON HAVE employed a 4-5-1 shape for most of the season which has seen them have a very good campaign so far. Danny Murphy is the one who tends to have more of a free role so they'll either play three in midfield or two with Murphy just behind the front player with Jerome Thomas one of the wide players and possibly Paul Konchesky, a player we know well here of course, the other.
A few teams have employed the same system this season and Charlton have worked it very well. They are difficult to break down in midfield where they get bodies in there and, of course, they have players like Jonatan Johansson and Shaun Bartlett up front who can score goals. They are also a threat from set plays.
They are a team that has always had a great work ethic, no doubt about that, and can always better or match any team for that. What they've done in recent seasons is add more and more quality to that and that's seen them consistently in a good position in the league.
We've got two big games this week and with regards to the season, it's now a big few days for us. If we can get a result at Charlton we then go into a home game on Saturday looking for another result to take us into a good position in the league.
Chris Hughton gives his regular assessment of our forthcoming opponents - next up, Charlton at the Valley tonight.
