The first team coach is preparing the team, along with David Pleat, for the Carling Cup trip to Coventry on Wednesday following the leaving of Glenn Hoddle and John Gorman on Sunday.
"I've been in this position before on a number of occasions and, fortunately or unfortunately whichever way you look at it, come the next morning you just have to look forward to the next game and think about getting a result," he considered.
"With the position we're in it is even more important that we get that result."
After taking training with David on Monday, Chris said that the reaction of the players is one of focus on the Coventry encounter and a determination to get the season back on track.
"Yes and I think that is a must because of the way things have gone and the result on Saturday. The reaction we got from the players is one that you would expect.
"There is an opportunity to put things right on Wednesday and a big one. The only way it is going to be put right is to continue to work hard in training and get a good reaction," he added, before agreeing that the Carling Cup - along with its European passport - is a competition very much worth succeeding in..
"Yes it is. If I look at where we are, we are a club that needs to be in the cup competitions and need to make progress in them. It is a big game for us."
Chris Hughton has experienced change before and insists the one constant remains - the aim of getting a result in the next game.
