Hughton on Defoe capture

Posted on 3 February 2004  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton says he views new signing Jermain Defoe as one of the top strikers in the country.

The deal to secure the services from West Ham of the 21-year-old was wrapped up ahead of the 5pm deadline on Monday and Chris gave his reaction to the capture he has been familiar with from a young age.

"He is a determined lad, that is for sure," reported the first team coach. "He is somebody that is not fazed by any situation he is in, although it is obvious to see that he is not the biggest of lads. You are not going to see him shy away from anything.

"He will thrive on being up against good quality Premiership players. I heard a quote from West Ham manager Alan Pardew, he sees him as one of the top strikers in the country and we view him like that as well.
