New signing Brad Friedel was naturally very impressed by the quality of the current Spurs squad before he made his summer move from Aston Villa.
Understandably that was the main reason why he opted for Spurs when our former USA international goalkeeper had opportunities to move elsewhere.
And now, as he admits in the August issue of Hotspur magazine, he’s been so blown away by the standard around him since making the move that his optimism for the future has gone up a notch or two.
“Everyone knows that this is a tremendous squad, a talented squad and, for me, the move has been so easy,” he says. “When the opportunity came to come to a club as ambitious as Tottenham, then that was it for me.
“The squad that has been put together here is very, very talented, one of the most talented I’ve been part of in football.”
Full-back Kyle Walker, who spent the second half of last season playing alongside Brad while on loan at Villa, is now back at the Lane and determined to cement a regular slot in the Spurs defence.
As he tells Hotspur in another exclusive interview: “I have come back to play. I’ve tasted Premier League football and that is what I want to do…I just want to play football and I want to play for Tottenham.”
Read both interviews in full in the latest Hotspur along with the thoughts of Michael Dawson, Gareth Bale, Ledley King, Steven Pienaar, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Rafael van der Vaart while Ossie Ardiles takes a look at football back home in Argentina in his regular column.
We also look back on the careers of Alfie Conn, Eddie Baily, Terry Medwin and Oyvind Leonhardsen and catch up with our former midfielder Mark Gower who is about to embark on his first Premier League experience having helped Swansea City to promotion last season.
Les Ferdinand answers questions from web regulars in a four-page special while we also celebrate 20 years in the Premier League with a look back at four of our most memorable opening games.
It’s all in the August issue of Hotspur, our official monthly magazine that no real Spurs fan can afford to miss. On sale today.
