As excitement continues to grow following our highest Premier League finish last season and the advent of our new stadium, Google’s 16th annual #YearInSearch campaign shows we continue to be the team on everyone’s lips in the US.
The Club’s popularity Stateside has been on a steady increase in recent years, sparked largely by the 2012 signing of US soccer icon Clint Dempsey, followed by the unforgettable ‘Ted Lasso’ sketch that went viral as NBC launched its Premier League coverage the following year.
We played to sold out crowds in the US during the 2014 and 2015 pre-season campaigns and we now have 52 Official Supporters’ Clubs in America - more than any other English team.
The top five was made up of Tottenham Hotspur, followed by Liverpool, Mexican side C.D. Guadalajara, Leicester and Borussia Dortmund.
Other top Google searches in the US included President-elect Donald Trump (people), Brad Pitt (actors), Michael Phelps (athlete) and Beyonce (musician).
