Home is where the Hart is

Posted on 29 January 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Mauricio Taricco puts our impressive record at White Hart Lane down to the 'little bit extra' that playing at home gives to the players.

The team have suffered only one defeat at the Lane - strangely to Middlesbrough, who have yet to win away since - and now take on a Newcastle side who have won only twice on their travels.

The Magpies are another team who enjoy their home comforts, registering 12 wins at St James Park with only a single defeat.

So what is it about playing on your own patch?

"When you play at home you have a little bit extra because the fans are there, you are playing on your own ground and you are used to it," pondered Mauricio.

"We feel confident because results have come our way - most of the time. So it is nice to be at home.

"Games are games though and it can change very quickly. Hopefully it won't and we will carry on getting points."

The full-back added that he expects no shortage of entertainment tonight as he suspects Newcastle will come to attack.

"I think so. I think the fact that they are quick and play with pace gives you, defensively, a lot to work on. For the public it is very exciting.

"The strength they have is the pace of two or three players and great stamina in midfield - that is how they cause you trouble."
