It was always going to be a difficult game for us against PSV Eindhoven. I felt that, with the amount of first team players we've got out, it was a chance to look at a couple of players who haven't been given many opportunities in this pre-season.
It was nice to see Rohan Ricketts and Dean Marney come on and get a bit of experience - so there are lots of things we can take out of the game. We are disappointed to have lost, but there are plenty of positives and there are also things that we know we have to work hard on.
It was a blow for us to lose Simon Davies and Darren Anderton during the game - we don't know how bad they are yet. Simon got kick on a nerve on the back of his calf, while Darren suffered a slight hamstring strain.
We're hoping that these are not going to be long-term setbacks because we already have a couple of long-term injuries.
We're hopeful that Fredi Kanoute will join our ranks next week, but all I can report at the moment is that he is three-quarters of the way through his medical and there are terms to be talked about over the coming days. I can't put you much more in the picture than that at the moment.
All things being equal, we are hoping that he will join us in the early part of this week.
I feel he will balance things off nicely with the strikers we have bought into the club. It would make it four strikers fighting for places and I think this is important at any club, where you need a cutting edge.
It will enable us to change things from the bench and his addition would give us a nice balance up front. As a manager you want to have options and it is healthy to have strikers putting pressure on each other to score goals. It is something we will be working towards.
