It was a very positive performance from us against a very good Sporting Lisbon side on Sunday - particularly in the second half.
The first half was also excellent and the second was always going to be hard because of the very hot conditions - to play the sort of tempo that we achieved in the first 45 minutes. It would have been easier for us if we could have finished them off in the first period.
We could have easily come in at the break three goals up - at least! That would have made it a lot easier for us in the second half as we could have sucked them in and hit them on the break.
All in all, it was a good run out for us and a much better performance than against PSV Eindhoven last weekend. It was a good team display, everybody working for each other and that is what we want.
Jamie Redknapp was an inspirational figure for us in the middle of the park. His pre-season has grown, people have forgotten that over the last six or seven months he hasn't played 90 minutes in the Premiership.
He's needed a good pre-season under his belt and I think that if we can keep him fit we will certainly benefit. He's got good passing abilities and we had a good shape about us against Sporting. He can tackle and get about people as well as pass the ball and that is what you want in the modern day game.
He is captain of the club now and I think he will relish the extra responsibility.
