Hoddle eyes Lane return

Posted on 19 January 2001 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle is looking forward to his latest return to Spurs — but will soon forget his glory, glory days to try and make Southampton the first team to grab a Premiership win at the Lane this season.
Hoddle remains a hero after his 12 years at the club and he admitted: “It’s a special place for me because I was associated with the club for a very long time - it is always nice to go back there.
“It is a wonderful stadium to play in and they have a very good home record at the moment.
“We know it is a tough game for us but it is a stadium and a pitch where I think we can go and play.”
Southampton arrive in N17 with us defending a 12-match unbeaten record at home in the Premiership, including nine wins.
However, any psychological advantage will be Hoddle’s men after they convincingly beat us at The Dell just three weeks ago.
The former England midfielder and manager said: “Their attitude to the game is different when they are playing at home - the results show that.
“They have been playing a similar shape to what they have been playing away from home but whatever personnel goes out there, they will be confident because they have been on that sort of form.
“We will have to perform at our very best to get something out of the game.”
That kind of imbalance in home form and away results has often been a Southampton characteristic in the past. But this season, Hoddle knows his men should have more scalps on display from their travels.
“Performance-wise it has been good all season. I am scratching my head sometimes to see how we have only picked up one away win.
“That has been baffling to us but we have performed very well but a lot of times we have picked up one point when it should have been three or no points when it should have been one.
“If we can turn that around in this half of the season we will start pushing ourselves up the league.”
Steve Wilson, Official Southampton Website<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
