Hill takes charge at Luton

Posted on 10 July 2000  - 12:00

English Barclays Premiership

Ricky Hill has left Spurs and been appointed manager of Luton Town in succession to Lennie Lawrence.

Spurs were approached for permission to talk to Hill, who was in charge of the club's under-17 side, and his release was agreed in order to further his career.

Hill, 41, played for Luton for a 14-year spell and made three appearances for England. He became a player-coach in the USA and then worked with director of football David Pleat on the coaching staff at Sheffield Wednesday and White Hart Lane.

"I believe Ricky will help us regain some of our past glories," said Luton chairman Mike Watson-Challis.

A delighted Hill added: "I had a great and successful time with the club, and my aim is to repeat this and in doing so achieve the wishes of the directors and the fans. As you can imagine I am very happy to come back as manager."
