Highbury high for kids

Posted on 30 March 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Pleat has placed his faith in youth as he faces an injury crisis for Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

Our director of football, in charge of team affairs at Hughbury, has named 11 players aged 21 or under in an 18-man squad for Highbury.

That includes first Premiership call-ups for England youth international Johnnie Jackson (18, pictured) and striker Steven Ferguson (19) and John Piercy (21) is in the squad for the first time this season.

They are joined by regulars Gary Doherty (20), Ledley King (20), Luke Young (21), Alton Thelwell (20), Simon Davies (20), Matthew Etherington (19) and Anthony Gardner (20) while Ian Hillier (21) is called up for the second time this season.

David's hand has been forced by a number of injuries to players on international duty. Sol Campbell (ankle) and Sergei Rebrov (hamstring) have been ruled out already and although both named in the squad, Ledley King (dead leg) and Luke Young (thigh) are battling to overcome knocks sustained on Under-21 duty. Stephen Clemence (groin) is also a doubt.

Stephen Carr (hernia), Oyvind Leonhardsen (chipped ankle) and Tim Sherwood (groin) are on the road to recovery, Darren Anderton (Achilles) is on crutches and long-term victims Mauricio Taricco and Ben Thatcher (groin) remain out.

Squad: Walker, Sullivan, Thelwell, Doherty, King, Gardner, Perry, Iversen, Freund, Davies, Korsten, Etherington, Ferdinand, Piercy, Young, Jackson, Ferguson, Hillier.

We are 4/1 to win the game - click here for details.
