Harry Redknapp paid tribute to Niko Kranjcar’s attitude and professionalism after his wonder strike beat Bolton on Saturday.
The Croatian international has had to settle for a supporting role so far this season with Gareth Bale in such magnificent form down the left.
He’s been restricted to just three starts in a total of 12 appearances but showed his class in the nick of time to secure three crucial points against Bolton.
Niko entered the fray in the 78th minute with the match poised at 1-1 and the team desperately trying to find a winner.
As the clock ticked into the 92nd minute, Niko delivered. He stepped inside Zat Knight 30 yards from goal before unleashing a fierce drive that Jussi Jaaskelainen got a hand to, but couldn’t prevent from rasping into the top corner. What a way to win.
“Niko can do things like that, he’s a matchwinner,” said Harry.
“He’s the type of player we need at the football club and he’s just been unlucky, Gareth Bale’s been so good he’s not had a chance to get into the side.
“But football clubs are also about having good characters.
“What Niko has done is continue to work hard, continue to show the right attitude, continue to do extra after training, his sprints, his running and he spends time shooting every day.
“He shows a great attitude and deserves all the credit in the world.
“He showed that against Bolton. He wasn’t on the pitch for long but showed fantastic ability to score the winning goal and he deserved that.”
