Fresh from notching his first Premier League goal against Sunderland on Monday, the striker was keen to impart his knowledge onto the Foundation’s U17s college team ahead of their match.
The team, made up of players from Barnet and Southgate, St Thomas More and Waltham Forest Colleges took on Czech Republic side FC Hlucin at White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, running out 2-1 winners following Harry’s team talk!
Harry said: “The Foundation’s college programmes are important for the community. Not only do they encourage young people to gain qualifications through sport – which is often their passion – but they also deliver memorable experiences for the students like playing matches against international teams. The players performed well today, and both sides looked like they enjoyed it.”
The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation Education and Football Development Centre programme offers students aged 16-18 the opportunity to combine football theory, Academy level coaching and affiliated cup and league competitions with a range of academic studies. Opportunities exist for students to study full-time BTEC level 2 or 3 and NVQ level 2 and 3 courses with the potential to continue onto a foundation degree in Sports Development and Coaching.
Students also embark on mentoring roles through various Tottenham Hotspur Foundation projects and coach children on Easter and summer school programmes the Foundation runs across the boroughs of Haringey, Enfield, Barnet and Waltham Forest.
Grant Cornwell, CEO of Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “We run a number of successful projects aimed at improving participation in football, using sport as a catalyst to develop the potential of young people.
“Through our Development Centres we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact football can have, especially at grassroots level, helping to support young people in a range of engaging, sporting and educational activities.”
