Harry: "It's about getting another 100 as soon as I can"

Sun 10 September 2017, 08:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Typical of the man, Harry Kane was targeting his next 100 goals for Spurs after becoming the latest member of our ‘100 club’ at Everton on Saturday.

Harry is the 17th member of that club, led by all-time top goalscorer Jimmy Greaves (266) and featuring the greats of our 135-year history, most recently Jermain Defoe (143) and Robbie Keane (122).

The dust had barely settled on that achievement at Goodison Park and Harry was looking forward.

“It’s a fantastic feeling, a fantastic achievement,” said Harry. “It’s a proud moment but for me, it’s about getting another 100 as soon as I can. That’s what it’s about, helping the team - and it was an excellent win today.”

Harry hit the century mark when his cross from the right sailed over Jordan Pickford into the far corner, handing us the lead on 28 minutes.

We were relentless after that, carving out chance after chance. Christian Eriksen doubled our lead on 42 minutes and Harry slotted home goal 101 for 3-0 from Ben Davies’ fine cross less than a minute into the second half.

It could have been more - Pickford denied Christian and Harry, Moussa Sissoko headed wide, Dele Alli’s curler was just off target - and rarely could a team have dominated Everton so much at Goodison.

Harry conceded the opener - goal 100 - was a stroke of fortune. “I was just trying to put the ball in a good area and luckily it went in, that’s football,” he said. “In August the ball just didn’t go in but I seem to get a bit of luck now and I’m happy to get the two goals.”

Harry, still only 24, has reached 101 goals in just 169 matches. His first was against Shamrock Rovers back in December 2011, he had a mini-burst at the end of the 2013-14 season and then broke through, spectacularly, with 31 goals in 2014-15. He hasn’t stopped scoring since, marked by his back-to-back Golden Boots as top scorer in the Premier League in the last two seasons.

“It’s been three or four years now and it goes so quickly,” he reflected. “As a footballer, time flies by.

“You have to take your moments, take every opportunity and try to maintain it and that’s what I’ve been able to do in my career so far - hopefully I’ll keep doing that for the rest of it.”
