Harry Redknapp was delighted to see Michael Dawson back in action against Cheltenham – and revealed the defender timed his return to perfection.
Saturday’s 3-0 win in the third round of the FA Cup represented Michael’s first match since August after being laid low with an Achilles problem.
He wore the captain’s armband again as goals from Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Giovani saw us into the fourth round.
“It's great to have Michael back,” said Harry. “He's a fantastic professional, top player and a great lad.
“He’s a real leader for us.”
Harry then revealed that Ledley King had picked up a hamstring problem in training on Friday.
“We've got injuries,” added the manager. “William Gallas picked up a calf the other day and Ledley came out to do a bit of training and felt his hamstring, so that's not very good.
“It's an ideal time to get Michael back, for sure.”
