Hugo Lloris said the players’ desire to end the Barclays Asia Trophy on a high was reflected in the performance against South China FC.

Jermain Defoe led the way with a hat-trick as we toppled the Hong Kong champions 6-0 at HK Stadium. Clint Dempsey and Andros Townsend also found the net, while our first goal was an own goal.

“We played a really good game,” said Hugo. “We made it easy because everyone respected the game and the opposition.

“The players took great pleasure in this performance after the defeat against Sunderland.

“We wanted to win and we played to win. It's a good satisfaction to finish the tournament with this victory.”

For all our dominance, Hugo produced the save of the match to deny South China a consolation goal in the final minutes. Dhiego De Souza Martins unleashed a drive from 25 yards that was destined for the top corner until Hugo’s fingertips diverted it away, a stunning save.

“It was so quick, a reaction and I just managed to touch the ball,” reflected the French captain.

"I knew during the game that I would have to make a save and it just happened to be in the last minute. It was good for me but the game was over!”

Hugo's attentions will now be focused on our next friendly and more than an interesting game for him as we travel to AS Monaco on Saturday.

Look out for Hugo's views later in the week...
