Hans on Clough

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Today's trip to Nottingham Forest will rekindle memories of 'Ol' Big 'Ead' for our goalkeeping coach Hans Segers.

Hans kicked-off his career in English football at Forest fully 20 years ago in 1984.

In charge of a Forest side that had won the European Cup in successive years just a few years earlier was the one and only Brian Clough.

"It was great for me," reflected Hans. "We're going a long way back, almost 20 years. For me, it was a childood dream to come to England and at that time Nottingham Forest were one of the great clubs.

"I had always watched English football on television back home in Holland so to play in some of these great stadiums in front of 30-40,000 fans was amazing.

"Shilton had gone and the deal was that Hans van Breukelen went to PSV, so Steve Sutton was the only other goalkeeper at the club.

"Cloughie was unbelievable, scary at times, but very interesting. A few things stood out, his training methods could be quite different from these days. That was Cloughie though! It was great to work with him."
