FA PREMIER ACADEMY LEAGUE

West Ham U17s 4 Spurs U17s 1

Our Under-17’s unbeaten record came crashing down at Purfleet FC on Friday night.

We failed to recover from a nightmare start of conceding a goal in the second minute and going 2-0 down inside 10 minutes.

The next hour was a closer affair and we hit back to make it 2-1 but the Hammers always had the upper hand and added two more late on.

The opening goal was a poor one from our point of view as we lost possession cheaply and West Ham broke to score from a tight angle and the second soon followed after an error from goalkeeper Rob Burch.

After a slow start we clawed our way back into the game and John Sutton slotted home the rebound after Lee Barnard’s shot was blocked after 65 minutes.

But West Ham grabbed a vital third from close range after 77 minutes and Burch capped a night to forget with another slip as a shot popped out of his grasp for the fourth in the final minute.

Boss Jimmy Neighbour admitted: “The disappointing thing was we never got to grips with the game. We went 2-0 down early on and struggled to come to terms with their 3-5-2 system.

“Obviously it was sad to see the unbeaten run go but the performance was poor. We were sloppy with and without the ball. Hopefully it will be a one-off and we’ll bounce back in the next game.”

Spurs U17s: Burch, Lee, McKie, Marney, Henry, Kelly, Hughes, Thomas, Sutton (Vedeux 80), Barnard, Herron. Unused subs: Gardener, Rutherford, Wetner.
