Gylfi Sigurdsson, Hugo Lloris and Vlad Chiriches will go into the European play-offs for a place in next summer's World Cup Finals.

However, team-mate Christian Eriksen misses out despite helping Denmark to runners-up spot in European qualifying Group B.

Gylfi helped created history for Iceland as they reached the play-off stage of World Cup qualfying for the first time.

The in-form midfielder set-up Iceland's goal against Norway as they secured the point required for second place in Group E.

Norway put Iceland under pressure in the early stages in Oslo but Iceland's nerves were settled when Gylfi's pass sent clear Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and he opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Norway levelled on 30 minutes and Iceland were still pushing for a win when they heard the news they wanted to hear - that rivals Slovenia had gone behind at leaders Switzerland with only 15 minutes remaining.

Iceland saw the game out at 1-1 and that point was enough as Switzerland held onto their lead.

Vlad was suspended for Romania's final group game but results went in his team's favour in Group D.

Turkey were Romania's main rivals for runners-up spot but they couldn't stop Holland completing the qualifying campaign with a ninth win in 10 matches, leaving Romania needing to beat Estonia to finish second - they did just that with a goal in each half.

Hugo Lloris and France were already guaranteed second spot and a play-off place at least in Group I, and things panned out just about as expected as leaders Spain toppled Georgia 2-0 to top the group and France beat Finland 3-0 to finish second.

Goalkeeper Hugo, who captained the team again, was called into action with the score at 1-0, but had little to do after that.

Christian played 53 minutes as Denmark hammered Malta 6-0 on Tuesday night but when all the results were in, the Danes had the worst record of the nine group runners-up and therefore failed to make the last-eight cut.
