The Uruguayan midfielder featured in last week’s goalless encounter against Watford but was far more involved in the lively 1-1 draw with the Hammers.
“I feel okay,” said Gus. “I feel much better than in the last game. Better in getting the ball, passing, turning around, shooting.
“I still haven’t scored, but that is probably because I am keeping it for the first team!”
Despite not finding the net, Gus was actually awarded our goal by the stadium announcer following Dean Marney’s leveller. Before the game restarted Gus was quick to correct the announcer.
“That was a great action where I was involved just in the beginning. I think Deano finished very well and I said to the man ‘not me!’
“I think it was alright, it was a nice game. I came off with one minute to go and I think the guys did brilliant - Clem, Carry and Les. Les was magnificent in the first half.”
Gus Poyet noticed a marked improvement in his form last night as he continued his comeback from a knee injury in the reserve fixture against West Ham at Dagenham.
