Gus Poyet feels that Liverpool's Worthington Cup triumph could provide a boost for their Premiership campaign - but not at the Lane on Sunday.
From losing their unbeaten league record at Middlesbrough in November, the Reds suffered something of a stutter on the home front and didn't win another Premiership game until a single goal victory over Southampton in mid-January.
An FA Cup exit to Crystal Palace followed, but the team have made progress in the UEFA Cup - including a 1-1 draw at Celtic last night - and enjoyed the fine win over Manchester United in Cardiff.
A third successive Champions League spot is now the target and Gus suspect the cup win could be the ideal tonic.
"If they want to be in the Champions League next season I think they have to win almost every game from now in the Premiership.
"Obviously they would like to come here and do something nice - especially as they will be more confident after winning a cup.
"Winning the cup was important for them, the supporters and everyone at Liverpool."
While Gus concedes that Liverpool will be in a confident frame of mind, he is sure we still have to tools to overcome them on Sunday.
"I think if we are at our best we can beat them, so it is up to us to be there and perform better. Especially better than in the last two games.
"I am not saying it is going to be easy, but it will be easy to motivate ourselves. Apart from that it is going to be tough.
"We have to improve and make sure we play better than in the last couple of games."
