Gus makes his point

Posted on 31 December 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gus Poyet insists it is vital to get back on the Premiership points trail again - beginning at Southampton on New Year's Day.

The livewire midfielder is well aware of the task facing the team in the first of two visits to St Mary's, Southampton being unbeaten at their home arena so far this season.

"They are in a very confident frame of mind," said Gus. "It is going to be a difficult game, they are quite direct and play everything possible to the box.

"So we are going to have to be very strong in the air at the back and try to play our football like we did at Newcastle in the first half."

Following the defeat at St James Park that ended our six-match unbeaten run, Gus feels it is even more important to come away with the points.

"We have to come back, we need points and can't afford to lose two games in a row.

"I think the team will react for sure."
