Gus Poyet has stressed the importance of our up-coming Premier League games, starting with tonight's clash with Everton.

With a Carling Cup final approaching and the UEFA Cup round of 32 tie with Slavia Prague to look forward to, our first team coach is keen for all to remember we cannot take our eye off the ball when it comes to climbing the table.

A win against a high-flying Everton side, who we have beaten in our last three meetings with them at Goodison Park, could be the perfect way for us to prove we are moving in the right direction.

Gus said: “It’s not as if we’ve only got the Carling Cup final and UEFA Cup to concentrate on. Our job is to make sure everybody is ready for Everton.

“We just have to be professional and enjoy our football, no matter what competition, so we’ll go to Everton and try to get the three points.

“Everton are a team who are very difficult to play against at the moment because they are solid and they know how they play their game.

“It’s a game we have to enjoy, even though we will have to fight hard, but we’ve been doing that of late so we just have to keep going and believing we can beat any team anywhere.

“It’s a great chance for us to keep climbing the table. We have three league games coming up where we have to get as many points as possible, but we have to take each game as it comes.

“We know about our record at Goodison, but we have to make sure we are ready as well.”
