Gus eyes record

Posted on 2 November 2002  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Gus Poyet has his eye on ending that league record against Chelsea on Sunday.

In case you don't know, we haven't beaten Chelsea in a Premiership fixture or in the league since 1990.

We ended the famous Chelsea jinx last season when we beat the Blues 5-1 in the semi-final Worthington Cup.

But now Gus wants to end it totally. "It is still very special because of the Premiership record," he said. "Before it was everything, now the Premiership.

"Of course, it is still special for me because of the past.

"It's a magnificent game to be involved in and let's see how it goes. I'm saying that record has to end sometime and I'd like to think it will be Sunday."

Gus added that it was vital to get a positive result to keep us in the right frame of mind for some tough assignments around the corner.

He said: "It is very important to get a result on Sunday and then go to Sunderland and Arsenal with the right mentality.

"First it will be difficult against Chelsea and if we can get the right result, great."
