Out for a couple of weeks after feeling a little pain in his wrist, Gus was like a kid in a sweet shop in his comeback game against City in the Carling Cup last week.
The midfielder was everywhere - bursting forward, working back, winning flicks, always involved - as we put together our best 45 minutes of the season against City to lead 2-0 at the break. We went on to win 3-1.
The strikers took over in the 5-2 win against Wolves but, as you can tell, the 36-year-old just loves to be out there.
"It's nice to back," said Gus, who is still wearing a protective cast on his wrist. "People who know me really well know if I'm not playing, then I'm suffering.
"Even if it's to support the players, to train with the players, to warm-up when I'm on the bench even if I'm only going to get a minute. It's nice to be involved.
"The City game was probably the most enjoyable of the season for me because I was involved in everything going forward, especially in the first half, trying to link, get the balls in the air, getting in the box.
"It was a different game against Wolves but the finishing was the key in that game.
"The last two games we've been very good going forward and that was one of the things we've been missing in the games before."
Gus Poyet could barely contain his delight as he reflected on returning for the feasts against Manchester City and Wolves.
