Steven Pienaar says he’s excited to be back out on a football pitch again.
The midfielder returned to action after injury and made his first start of the season against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Hampered by a groin injury throughout the summer and into the start of the campaign, Steven completed a full 90-minute shift on his return as we suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Russian side.
William Gallas also returned and played for 72 minutes on his first start.
Naturally, the result determined the mood of the players at the Central Stadium, but Steven boarded the plane home in a positive frame of mind.
“It’s good to be back and to be playing again, I’m happy about that but at the same time, it’s never good to lose,” said the South African international in Kazan.
“We knew it was going to be difficult and that’s how it turned out.
“I managed to get minutes under my belt, played the full game and that’s what I wanted.
“I got through it well and that was important for me. It was my first 90 minutes for a while, I’ve been out for a good few months. Now I’m excited to get back out and play.
“I’ll just take it step by step, see how I feel Friday and Saturday and take it from there.”
