Gareth Bale admitted the turn-out to our store signing in Manhattan on Friday took him and his team-mates by surprise.
Up to 500 fans queued in the rain to meet Gareth, Younes Kaboul, Roman Pavlyuchenko and legendary midfielder and club ambassador Ossie Ardiles at a Puma signing at Upper 90 Sport and Soccer, 94th Street, Manhattan.
The lads and Ossie signed every autograph for round 75 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the supporters.
"It was a fantastic turn-out," beamed Gareth, our match-winner the night before with the second goal against New York Red Bulls. "I've got to say I didn't expect so many fans to be here.
"It was great to meet them and give something back to them.
"I've been surprised with the interest in the level of support for football in America. They have major sports over here like baseball, American Football and basketball, but clearly football is well supported as well."
The attendance stats back up Gareth's views - a record crowd turned up for our first friendly on this American training camp in San Jose and over 20,000 (capacity, 25,000) were there for our opener against Red Bulls in the Barclays New York Challenge on Thursday night.
