Graduation Day!

Posted on 6 May 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

The study support centre held its spring term graduation ceremony recently with defender Dean Richards popping in for a guest appearance.

Students attended with their parents and there were also guests from Haringey Education Authority as well as the Heads and link teachers from all the schools represented.

Each term at our graduation, pupils who have completed the study programme are presented with certificates recognising their achievement. There are also prizes awarded for exceptional achievement in certain areas, for instance outstanding student and most improved student.

We were lucky enough on this occasion to have Dean as our guest of honour to meet the children and hand out certificates. All of the pupils were absolutely delighted to get a special well done from him and we'd like to extend our thanks to Dean for giving up his time to come to the graduation and give out prizes.

Alongside their certificates students also received a special Tottenham Hotspur folder of their work and a record of achievement filled in by the learning mentors and the centre manager. It was the icing on the cake for the pupils to receive all this from a Tottenham player!

It was my first graduation as centre manger and I could see how much it meant to the pupils to have their achievement validated by such an important ceremony.

I spoke to many parents and teachers after the graduation and much of what they said had one thing in common. Nearly all of them said how much more confident their child or pupils were after coming to the study centre.

It was very satisfying to receive such positive feedback and reflected very well on the club for its commitment to the Playing for Success scheme. It was also a nice payback for the hard work that all the staff put into running the study support centre.
