Spurs dominated for large spells of the game and it was against the run of play that Arsenal took the lead. Gus Poyet saved the day in the final seconds and ensured that the team took at least a share of the derby spoils.
John reasons that the team, if not the fans, must look beyond the fact that it is the neighbours visiting on Sunday.
"The most important issue is 'can we get another three points?'" said John. "We are doing well at home and have a great record and we played excellently against them here last year and we've got to remind ourselves of that.
"We were the better side and we definitely deserved to get maximum points. In the end we were fortunate when we got the goal at the end from Gus.
"We deserved it because, especially in the first half, we played exceptionally well.
"There is no reason why we can't get a good result this weekend if we can put together the good bits from the Chelsea and Leeds games at home this season.
"We know Arsenal's strengths and weaknessess but, on the day, it is about how we perform. We didn't play our best over there and it was unfortunate that we lost Simon."
John Gorman says the team must remind themselves of last season's performance against Arsenal at the Lane as they look ahead to Sunday's meeting.
