Our assistant manager enjoyed a spell working with Burley at Portman Road before leaving to link up with Glenn again at Southampton.
"It's one of my old clubs," said John. "I was there the year before they came up when they got beaten in the play-offs.
"I was there for a few months while I was waiting to join up with Glenn. I could have stayed there, it is a smashing club with great people.
"I'm obviously friends with George Burley and the coaching staff there."
John feels that expectation along with the bedding in of new players has hampered Ipswich this term, but warns against writing them off and expecting an easy three points.
"I think just because they've done so well everyone's expectation went too high. He has quite a few new players there this year who will take a little bit of time to settle in.
"Do not underestimate them, they are still a smashing football team, a hard team to beat - I know what George is like.
"We won't underestimate them at all even though they are down at the bottom, we both went to Aston Villa and looked at them very closely."
"Don't underestimate Ipswich" is the message from John Gorman, who is well positioned to make a judgement on George Burley's side.
