Gorman on Postiga capture

Posted on 1 July 2003  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

John Gorman agreed that the arrival of Helder Postiga at White Hart Lane signals an exciting time for all concerned at the club.

Our assistant boss was at the Lane on Thursday to welcome the Portuguese international striker and was not about to counter the opinion that the capture of Helder has thrilled staff and supporters alike.

"Certainly is exciting," said John. "It's always nice to get new signings in - it is a very good, positve signing for the club.

"He is a young player with potential who has already proved he can do it at the highest level."

So what type of striker is the 20-year-old?

"I said to Glenn after one of my excursions to watch him play is that he put me in mind of a young Mark Hughes. Power, strength and aggression towards the goal - a sort of old fashioned type that takes people on.

"He plays one-twos, has got a lovely touch - when you play in Portugal everyone is comfortable on the ball. He's played with a team that's has achieved things as well.

"It must have been hard for him to leave, but it is great to know - and I have known for a long time - that he is actually a Spurs fan. It is nice to know that players like this want to come here.

"He has supported Spurs since he was a youngster and his dream has come true with joining the club."

John concluded by insisting that Helder is a player the White Hart Lane faithful will take to their hearts.

"Oh yes, definitely - of course. He is a different style of player and the fans will take to him."
