Stephane Dalmat completed his season-long switch from Inter Milan while, in a move that was not predicted in the press, Paul Konchesky headed across London from Charlton on a one-month loan with Chris Perry going in the opposite direction.
It all added up to a hectic afternoon for the management team.
"Yes, I had that mobile phone on while out on the training pitch and it was interesting," reflected John last night. "It was good, we got two players and Chrissie P has gone off to Charlton.
"He has gone for a month because, to be fair to him, he needs to be playing regularly. We could bring him back or we can extend the loan of him and Paul depending on the circumstances.
"We can look at Paul now, hope he does well and then look at him for the future. We can also ask Charlton to extend the loan as they can with Chrissie - it could work for both clubs."
Konchesky's introduction to life at the Lodge was a short one as he very quickly headed off on England duty.
"He's an England under-21 and is in the squad for this week and might start the game," added John. "He's gone away on international duty and we've lost him before we've worked with him!
"He came in and met us at the training ground and then went off with his country. I'm looking forward to him coming back because he's full of enthusiasm and looking forward to the challenge of playing with us."
It was a busy transfer deadline day down at Spurs Lodge and John Gorman was delighted with the addition of two new players to the ranks.
