Fredi Kanoute hopes to be able to play some part in Saturday's friendly encounter with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The striker was laid low on his return to pre-season training with a chest infection that set back his preparation for the new season, but he reports good progress and stepped up his training on Thursday.
"I was a bit ill with a chest infection but now I am feeling well," revealed the Mali international who featured in World Cup qualifiers during the close season. "I started some physical training on Thursday and hope to push on.
"I didn't stopped much during the break so I haven't lost much fitness. I just need to remain at a good level and keep working.
"I will train first on Friday and maybe be able to play a part as a substitute on Saturday - hopefully I will be in the squad."
