Gomes up for FA Cup award

Heurelho Gomes has followed in Gareth Bale's footsteps and is on the shortlist for the E.ON Player of the Round for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The goalkeeper was in fine form in our goalless draw at Fulham on Saturday and produced a world-class save to keep out Zoltan Gera's close-range header five minutes into the second half.

Gomes also saved well from Damien Duff and Bobby Zamora as we secured an 11th clean sheet in 18 games and a replay at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, March 24.

The popular number one is up against Portsmouth striker Frederic Piquionn, Villa hat-trick hero John Carew, Chelsea defender Alex and Reading's Shane Long.

Full-back Gareth's storming displays against Bolton saw him nominated and then win the E.ON Player of the Round for the fifth round.

Voting closes on March 24.
