Heurelho Gomes is ready to switch his focus back to domestic matters after helping us get the job done in Europe this week.
Tuesday’s draw at FC Twente was enough to see us top our Champions League group above holders Inter Milan ahead of next Friday’s draw for the Round of 16.
The goalkeeper admits his delight at the achievement but feels it is time to put European matters to bed for the time being.
We’re unbeaten in our last five Premier League games going into Sunday’s clash with champions Chelsea at the Lane, and six points off leaders Arsenal.
This form gives Gomes confidence going into another big London derby, saying: “It’s a great feeling for the Club and the fans to have finished top of our Champions League group and I think we deserve it because we have fought hard.
“But we’re focused on the Premier League again now and we can forget a little bit about the Champions League until February. We need to keep going and picking up points, especially at home, it’s so important.
“It’s easy to think about a game like this. It’s a game everybody wants to play in and we’re going into this game strong. There’s a little gap between us and Arsenal at the top but we need to keep going.”
In terms of the Champions League, Gomes added: “We know the Champions League will always be difficult. We’ve finished first but you can be sure we’ll get a strong side in the next round.”
