Heurelho Gomes tells March's Hotspur magazine how Gareth Bale drove his Brazilian team-mates Maicon and Lucio nuts in the Champions League.

The Welsh wizard captured the attention of the footballing world with his hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat against Inter Milan in the San Siro in October.

He then followed it up with arguably an even better display as we dismantled the European champions 3-1 at the Lane in November.

Gareth didn't score that night but set-up goals for Roman Pavlyuchenko and Peter Crouch - and left Maicon and Lucio gasping for air.

"Yes, I did speak with Maicon," revealed Gomes in this month's edition of the club's official magazine.

"He was already aware beforehand that Gareth was fast and good with the ball. But after the game Maicon told me that Bale 'isn't fast - he's like a bolt!'

"We played well in those games because they were more open and we could attack, so it was more difficult for Maicon and Lucio to deal with him.

"Though they are good friends of mine in the national team and also off the field, I was happy with the outcome because Bale's my team-mate."
