Heurelho Gomes is targeting a quick recovery from our FA Cup ‘disaster’ at Fulham with a win at Blackburn on Wednesday night.
The goalkeeper was left shellshocked as we conceded two penalties in the space of three minutes and had Michael Dawson sent off on the way to a 4-0 half-time deficit and final scoreline at Craven Cottage.
Like defender Sebastien Bassong, Gomes insists we have to put that disappointment behind us as soon as possible – starting at Ewood Park as we return to Premier League action on Wednesday night.
“It’s another tough game but we have to go and try to win,” he said at Spurs Lodge on Monday. “We need to recover as soon as we can from Fulham.
“We know it will be very difficult but we’ve had some good results there and we have to do it again.
“We have to show a strong character and good mentality and we know we can do that.”
Gomes was almost at a loss for words as he reflected on Sunday’s defeat. “We lost the game in 10 minutes,” he said. “There wasn’t much more we could do after that, 3-0, down to 10 men. It was a horrible feeling.”
There was also support for ‘Daws’. “He’s so important for us. He’ll keep going and look forward because he’s a strong character and we need him.”
