Godwin’s memory lives on

In March 2010 a budding young footballer from Enfield lost his life to knife crime as he tried to help a group of friends who had been set upon by a gang.

Godwin Lawson had been on the books of Oxford United but a promising career was cut short at the age of 17. Since then, the Club has worked closely with a Foundation set up in Godwin’s memory by his mum, Yvonne, and annually stages the Godwin Lawson Memorial Tournament in Tottenham.

This year’s event took place this week and was supported by Ledley King and London’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden.

Not only did the day feature a football tournament involving young people representing teams from across the South-East but also workshops educating the participants on the importance of staying away from the type of crime that took Godwin’s life.
