Unusually, for such a high-scoring game, the first goal did not come until just before half-time when Johnnie Jackson struck home a superb free-kick from the edge of the area. The lead did not last too long and Stortford levelled shortly after the break when Roy Essandoh - of Wycombe FA Cup fame - slotted past Nicky Eyre in the Spurs goal.
On 52 minutes Stortford took the lead when Eyre saved from Owen Beale and Richard Howell knocked in the rebound. The lead was short lived and two minutes later a superb strike from midfielder Lee Barnett levelled the scores.
The show-stealing goal came on 65 minutes when Mark Yeates collected the ball a few yards outside the home penalty area. He advanced past his marker and steered a cool and precise finish past keeper Desborough.
Five minutes later came another equaliser when Michael Black rounded Eyre to score.
Spurs again took the lead with two minutes left on the clock when a Jackson ball to the left was volleyed across goal by substitute Kieran McKenna and Ben Bowditch was alert in the six yard box to take advantage.
But Stortford secured a draw with seconds remaining when a free-kick from just outside the area clipped the wall and left the wrong-footed Eyre stranded.
Team: Eyre, Doherty, Foster, Henry (McKenna 80), Barnett (Price 63), Hughes, Bowditch, McKie, Yeates, Jackson, Slabber (Dobson 50).
