This week on tottenhamhotspur.com we are giving fans the chance to vote for their favourite Spurs goal of the 2008-09 campaign.
It was a season in which we managed to lift ourselves from the doom and gloom of relegation trouble to the exciting prospect of European qualification under the guidance of Harry Redknapp.
And there were a number of memorable goals along the way!
Every day this week we will be giving you the lowdown on each of the five contenders, starting with Option 1 today...
David Bentley v Arsenal, Wednesday October 29, Emirates Stadium
Who can forget this one! ‘Bentley from the halfway line...' was the chant as we opened the scoring against our North London rivals in one of the games of the season in stunning fashion.
David Bentley, returning to the club where he began his career, scored his first league goal for us after 13 minutes of the derby - and what a way to do it!
Following a cagey start from both sides, the ball was bobbling around innocuously in the middle of the park when, all of a sudden, it fell to Bentley.
The midfielder controlled the ball with his knee, and teed it up nicely for an audacious 40-yard volley that caught Manuel Almunia off his line, sailing out of his reach and into the back of the net.
The following day, David told Spurs TV Online: "I'm in dreamland. I keep thinking I'm going to wake up in a minute!
"Clive Allen and Kevin Bond had said the keeper likes to come off his line, and I didn't realise I was that far out when I just teed it up and leathered it. I just thought, why not? It was mad, I just ran straight to the fans. That's why I love playing football!"
It was the perfect start to a memorable night...and we all know what was to come!
